Starting with the famous oil painting Mona Lisa, these are two distinct words where Mona is referred to Madonna that is my lady and the word Lisa means wife of rich trader called Francesco Giocondo. Thus both the word are joined together to get Mona Lisa. This particular famous oil painting became well known to the world of art after 31 years of Leonardo Vinci's death. Mona Lisa oil painting is famous for its beautiful smile. Another great achievement of this famous painting is that you cover any part of the painting you will find that other left over parts like eyes, lips, fore head and the cheeks also smiles.
In 19th century this oil painting was also known by other names such as certain Florentine lady and a courtesan in a gauze veil.
This painting of Mona Lisa by Leonardo Vinci took almost four years to complete. He started painting Mona Lisa in the year 1503. At present this painting is placed in Louver in Paris. Napoleon the first was great admirer of this famous painting and kept it in his bedroom and after his death it was moved to the Louver.

In August 1911 this famous oil painting was took away by Vincenzo and later on he was captured and famous painting of Mona Lisa was recovered. One of the admirers in 1956 threw acid on to Mona Lisa painting and the part of chin and lips were spoiled. Now days this Famous oil painting is under strict vigilance and it is placed in glass cabin. Thus one can understand how valuable was this Mona Lisa's oil painting.
The second famous oil painting is of same artist Leonardo Da Vinci and is named as The Last Supper. He started this painting in 1495 and completed it in the year 1497. The Last supper is a painting from the Bible where Lord Jesus had his last supper with his 12 followers. This painting is world famous and it is in custody of the Milan government. The last supper is a replica of that final moments and face expression of the 12 followers when Lord Jesus announced that one of them is going to break his trust. It is drawn on a wall and due to this it was unable move and it also deteriorate with in next few years.
Other famous oil paintings by Leonardo da Vinci are The Virgin and Child in which St Anne and Mary and child Jesus are depicted. This was his last painting.
Another famous painting is of Pablo Picassos Garcon a la pipe. This painting by Pablo Picasso was sold for 104 million dollars on 4th May 2004, which is more than the cost of Leonardo Vinci's Mona Lisa painting which cost 100 million dollars as per the data of Guinness Book of records.
